I’m currently in Berlin at the Carrier Ethernet World Congress. One of the events organized by the folks at IIR who, as always, have put together a very valuable event for Carriers and Vendors. IIR is especially adept at ensuring high-quality presentations and content that attracts high-value decision makers in the Carrier Market. If you’ve talked with me in the last few weeks you’ve heard me complain about the price IIR wants to attend the event. However I do feel that it was money well spent.
The main theme in this event was, not surprisingly, mobile access/mobile backhaul strategies and technologies. From the mobile transport side all of the usual wireline vendors were represented; NSN, Juniper, Huawei, Cisco, as well as a number of Microwave vendors; Harris Stratex and Ceragon among others.
One of the more interesting sub themes of the entire show was synchronization in packet based mobile networks. Anyone who has touched the Mobile Market in the last few years has been inundated with the gravity of this technical challenge. Hopefully we’ll have an all ethernet based solution in the future.
