In case you haven’t seen the news, the CTO at AT&T has confirmed that there are issues with the iPhone service in the US, link here.
He mentioned that the bursty nature of data traffic is difficult to quantify and therefore it’s difficult to engineer for. Those of us in the IP world are thinking “has this guy been living under a rock since 1995?”. Bursty traffic has been the norm of IP/Data Networks almost as long as those networks have been around.
In an earlier post I postulated that there might be issues with the backhaul networks in the UK due to the impending iPhone carrier expansion. On January 1, 2010 the top 3 mobile phone providers will have authority to sell it. I have also recently learned that in the Czech Republik the top mobile providers also have access to the device.
I’m drawing parallels where none might, in reality, exist but; Is the current state of the AT&T mobile backhaul network a sign of things to come in other countries?
This author lives in Germany and has yet to see any issues……hopefully he won’t
