New Look, New Functionality

by John McCann on November 2, 2009

It’s been awhile since I have updated the blog, since October 22nd to be exact.  The reason is that I have moved the blog to a new provider and a new framework.  This blog is now powered by Wordpress and Thesis, two very powerful tools which add extensibility and SEO that were missing from my previous blogging tool.  The look and feel is provided by the Thesis Sharp Skin which, out of the box, is very user and administrator friendly.

Discussion, idea-sharing and participation are the general idea of this site and as you can see there is a load of new functionality to help get people involved.  On the left there is an area to register and login to the site;  Once logged in the you can comment and share with anyone else subscribed to the site.  On the sidebar there is a place where you can see all of the most recent comments on any post on the blog.

In order to assist in navigation there are a few new features. I have added a “Tag Cloud”, in the Tag Cloud you an see that certain words are larger than others, that means that these Tags are used more often.  If you mouse over the tags then you’ll see that they are links to all posts that have that particular Tag associated with them.  A calendar on the sidebar shows when I have written an entry.

There are also social media hooks to assist in commenting, tweeting or posting.  On each post a Twitter button will let you tweet a post should you find it interesting enough to share with your tweetsphere (that’s my new word for the day).  Furthermore hooks through Facebook, del.icio.us, and Slashdot among others as a way to share your comments through various external sites are at the bottom of each post.

I hope that this site is informative and entertaining for you, the readers and I hope that you will help make it a place where people discuss the Telecom Markets and Technologies in Europe. As new developments come about that can make this site more interesting, I will be adding them to enhance the experience.

Thanks

John McCann
